YEREVAN, May 7. /ARKA/. Karabakh conflict settlement is impossible without legitimately elected authorities of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, Karen Bekaryan, head of the European Integration non-governmental organization, said Thursday in Sputnik-Armenia International Multimedia Press Center while commenting on parliamentary elections in Nagorno Karabakh.
According to preliminary reports, the Free Motherland Party headed by Nagorno-Karabakh Prime Minister Araik Harutyunyan is the biggest vote-gainer in this election – it won 32,632 votes or 47.35%.
The Democratic Party of Artsakh, led by Ashot Gulyan, speaker of the Nagorno-Karabakh National Assembly, came second with 13,105 votes (19.01%).
Armenian Revolutionary Federation/Dashnaktsutiun scored 12,965 votes (18.81%), Movement-88 party 4,777 votes (6.93%) and National Revival party 3,709 votes (5.38%).
The remaining two parties – Communist Party of Nagorno Karabakh and Peace and Developmnet party failed to score 5%.
«The election was conducted at a high level and it ensured a step forward to the republic,» Bekaryan said.
«Whatever statements international organizations and particularly OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs might make, they should admit the fact that the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic has developed democracy, legitimate authorities and accomplished state-governing institutions.»
Bekaryan also said that this election, for sure, will influence negotiations over Karabakh.
«It is impossible to imagine that everybody, including the co-chairs, wanting long-term settlement of the conflict can do without a full participation and involvement the Ngorno-Karabakh legitimate authorities in the negotiation,» he said. ---0-----
