Armenia is discussing a mechanism for paying for health insurance for citizens with salaries up to 200,000 drams

YEREVAN, August 12. /ARKA/. The Armenian government is exploring potential ways to integrate citizens earning up to 200,000 drams into the Universal Health Insurance system, starting January 1, 2027. This topic was addressed during a government meeting on Wednesday.

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan revealed that one of the proposed options involves the state covering 4,400 drams of the monthly insurance premium, which totals 10,800 drams per individual. Under this plan, employees would contribute 2,000 drams, while employers would cover the remaining 4,400 drams.

According to the prime minister, the 2,000 drams aligns with the contributions employees made to the Zinapa fund until January 1, 2026.

"If a citizen's salary increases and surpasses the 200,000 dram threshold, they will transition to the system applicable to those earning 200,000 drams or more," Pashinyan stated.

He also mentioned that starting January 1, 2028, a new mechanism might be implemented: in this scenario, employees would pay 6,000 drams of the 10,800 dram monthly fee, while employers would contribute 4,800 drams. This arrangement would remain in place as long as the employee's salary stays below 200,000 drams. 

Pashinyan further noted that employees could recover the amount they paid as a social credit when submitting their comprehensive income tax returns. 

The prime minister highlighted that discussions regarding this mechanism are ongoing with representatives from the National Assembly, as well as employees and employers.-0-
