YEREVAN, March 17. /ARKA/. Armenian citizens will have extended Easter holidays after the government has decided today to make March 28, which is Monday, a non-working day.
March 28 is marked by the Armenian Apostolic Church as Merelots, a day when Armenians remember their deceased relatives by visiting their graves. It comes after Easter. Instead April 2, which is Saturday, will be a working day.
Chief of government staff David Harutyunyan said the government has developed changes to the calendar of holidays. According to him, the government wants to provide citizens with two long weekends a year- i.e. with four non-working days in a row. He reminded that the Armenian Church marks five festivals of the Lord, which are followed by the Deceased Remembrance Days. -0-
