YEREVAN, August 1. /ARKA/. Yerevan mayor Taron Margaryan refuted mass media allegations that he owns minibus route lines and holds interest in increasing public transport fares.
“These statements are idle speculations”, Margaryan told reporters during his visit to Nor-Norm administrative district.
The mayor assured he owns no route line.
In responding the reporter’s question that one of the route line companies is called “Robert and Taron”, the mayor said there are many such companies, but none of them belongs to him.
Margaryan also dismissed allegations that all shops and other facilities in Avan administrative district belong to him. He said he grew up and spent his life in Avan and was elected twice as head of the district.
“The fact that Avan residents trust me does not mean it is my property. Avan belongs to its residents and to Yerevan”, the mayor said.
The increase of public transport fare fr om 100 to 150 drams as from July 20 raised a wave of discontent among the residents of the capital. The main motto of activists was “Won’t pay 150 drams” during protests held for six days. Another campaign was called Free Car wh ere famous showmen, politicians and reporters were giving a lift to Yerevan residents for free. As a result, the mayor of Yerevan suspended his own decision on the increase.–0--
