YEREVAN, September 16. /ARKA/. Members of the Armenian government unanimously elected today Sasun Khachatryan as head of the Anti-Corruption Committee.

Khachatryan previously served as head of the Special Investigation Service. Khachatryan told the Cabinet members that the Committee that will have 20 investigators will begin to operate in a month and 6 days.

According to him, the anti-corruption agency will start working in full from the beginning of next year after its territorial branches are created.

The government-drafted bill to set up a new anti-corruption body as part of its anti-graft strategy

was approved by the Armenian parliament in March of 2021.

The new body has inherited most of its powers from anti-corruption divisions of four Armenian law-enforcement agencies, including the Special Investigative Service that has been abolished.

The Anti-Corruption Committee will combine investigative and operational and search functions, which will help to increase the efficiency of the investigation of corruption crimes.

The government believes the Anti-Corruption Committee will be more effective in combating bribery and other corrupt practices. -0-
